I'm not ashamed to say this book brought me to tears! Great story. A well told story of sacrifice, longing, and redemption...from a dog's point of view. I can't say enough about this book! Loved it!

Great book. Easy read, but keeps you reading on. Great for anyone who has dogs - see the dogs point of view!

Kimchimama's statement "you will need tissues for last few chapters" is an understatement. What a delightful read. Haven't figured on how to give ratings but it's 5 stars.

Wow! What a story. This was a one kleenex box read. A dog who philosophizes throughout his relating of his master's story is not something I was expecting. The author's use of racecar driving analogies is perfect. I have read many stories where the consciousness is an animal but have never met one quite so intelligent or engaging. Enzo (the dog) is the most thoughtful, contemplative of dogs. He is yearning to communicate but must rely only on his body language, and is fortunate to have lived his entire life with a family who appreciates him and treats him with respect. The progression of the story and it's ending are very moving. A very good quick read (six hours for me) that kept my interest from beginning to end. A real treat.

Loved this book. So unique - reading through the mind of a dog. Made me look at my dog in a new light. (you will need tissues for last few chapters!)

The inescapable sad goodbyes are why I try to avoid reading animal stories in the first place, but so many people recommended this book to me that I had to check it out. Huge props to the author for writing a book about a dog and dealing with his inevitable death on the very first page. For this respectful ingenuity, I forgive the one-dimensional characters, the unbelievable string of bad luck, and all the times Enzo randomly flips between acting like a smart man and a dumb dog. This novel is silly, predictable, entertaining and soothing – all the reasons people like me love pets.

This is a book that will make you laugh, think & maybe even tear up a little at the end. Enzo has more wisdom & patience than a lot of people I know (although I found myself wishing that just once he would have taken a chunk out of one of the "evil twins"). It's a hopeful story that will make you think & give your dog an extra treat.

A tale in which Enzo, a loyal family dog, tells the story of his human family, how they nearly fell apart, and what he did to bring them back together. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs - he thinks and feels in nearly human ways. He has educated himself by watching extensive television, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs' a philospher with a nearly human soul (and a obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television and listening carefully to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up and coming race car driver. Now in his twightly years, Enzo finds himself thinking back on his life with the Swift family, reflecting on all he has learned about the human conditions and how life, like racing, is about so much more than simply going fast.
