If you see the word prairie do you think about Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder? The great prairielands that Laura and her family knew once covered about 40 percent of the United States. This important, endangered ecosystem now covers less than 1 percent of our country.
Through poetic words and beautiful art Phyllis Root and Betsy Bowen give us a look at important prairie plants and the birds, butterflies, and other animals that use these plants for food and shelter. They also encourage us to plant a pocket of prairie in our backyards or on our porches. We may be surprised to see who might creep, crawl, or fly in for a visit!

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman! Superman, the man of steel, the hero known and loved around the world was created by two good friends from Cleveland, Ohio.
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were short, shy teenagers. They weren't good at sports. They didn't know how to talk to girls. But they both loved hero stories and comic strips. Jerry's favorite thing was writing his own adventure and science fiction stories. Joe would draw anywhere whenever he could. These two friends decided to combine their talents and created the super hero they wished they could be.
