Single mother Callie is going back to work and needs someone to care for her daughter Rae. But her regular and usually reliable friend Suzy has adopted a rather untoward lifestyle, so Callie looks to a new neighbour, Debs, to take charge of Rae's care. But Debs is anxious and odd and as Callie discovers not someone to trust to care for your child, especially if you knew anything about her past. A brilliant and chilling evocation of modern life, likely to be a big hit with book clubs.

A completely surprising read.
Millar characterizes a group of acquaintances, clearly products of their time and place.

I thought this was an engrossing story with a twist at the end. I really enjoyed it and could not put it down. It is an easy read but quite compelling. Look forward to more from this author.

I thought it was very suspenseful with a twist near the end that I never saw coming! An easy read but a good story nonetheless!
