An American Literature and Diversity class I was in during college watched this movie as part of the unit on the LGBT+ community. During Dennis Shepard's courtroom speech about the murder of his son, several people in my class - including a devout "Leviticus and fire and brimstone" Christian boy and a burly, bearded fireman - were audibly crying or trying not to. I think that about sums this movie up. The fact that this is all taken from real interviews makes it very powerful and moving.
