Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds-clearly, someone or something is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift-and they encounter horrors that defy imagination. Along the way, author Grady Hendrix infuses sly social commentary on the nature of work in the new twenty-first century economy.

A traditional haunted house story in a contemporary setting (and full of current fears), Horrorstor comes conveniently packaged in the form of a retail catalog, complete with illustrations of ready-to-assemble furniture and other, more sinister accessories. We promise you've never seen anything quite like it!

I very much enjoyed this horror novel set in an IKEA imitation store. I had originally thought it was a horror comedy because of the fake furniture store catalog format but it ended up being satisfyingly grim and suspenseful.

Initially, I thought it was going to be a good scary story. It had some pretty good elements - suspense, characterization, true-to-life setting. Unfortunately, it became too far-fetched —-not that spooky stories generally lean towards realism, but Amy and the others went through too much trauma to be alive in the end. Yet, they seem to come out with some minor injuries that soon healed (except maybe emotionally).
The biggest plus of this book was the format. It is written in catalog form, and the products lend to the storyline and, metaphorically, take on the task of some of our actions.

I actually liked this book a lot more than I thought I was going to. It is written in kind of a fluffy style that makes you wonder if it's really going to be that scary. But as the story progresses, it gets creepy and makes you wonder what is going to happen next. I found it a satisfying read.

I picked it up for the same reason everyone else probably did: the Ikea-esque cover. What I got was a really good horror story. It's a fast paced, easy read, that's much better than you'd think.

Everyone's already done a bang-up job describing the sensibility. Gleefully wicked, esthetically pleasing to look at and handle...one of a kind. Retail therapy lol. I gave a copy to my son for Christmas, too.

It was exactly what I needed after some the serious stuff I’ve read lately. The opening had me going “YAY! Zombies!” and then giggling as I realized what kind of zombies they were talking about. Everything in Horrorstör was well-described, with the perfect amount of detail, with a sort of “Silent Hill” vibe. It unfolded in my head almost like a movie, and that’s the best kind of book. I loved the transitions, the characters, everything. I honestly can’t think of a single bad thing to say about this book!

The pace was fast and awesome. It runs from page one and doesn’t slow down until the end is wrapping up. The characters are believable. Seriously, with almost each character I found myself having this moment of recognition and being like “Oh god, its (insert acquaintance’s name)!” There were no annoying tropes or info dumps, so overall I can’t think of a single reason why you shouldn’t at least give Horrorstor a try.

It was interestingly presented with an Ikea catalog reminiscent cover and furniture descriptions at the start of each chapter. Inside that glossy cover, Horrorstor is a dark and twisted take on the retail experience. I appreciated the beautiful and grotesque, at times, narrative. It is truly a horror to bestow upon one's mind. Enjoy.

A fun read! It's terrific when a constant reader can find a new story - yes, this borrows from a number of genres, but it's fresh, funny, and scary. Enjoy!

You start reading this book thinking it is not going to be a really scary book. I mean, it takes place in an IKEA knock off store. How scary can it be? And then all of a sudden you are sitting on the edge of you seat and can't put the book down because who knows what will happen when the lights go out!
