This is a very confused book set in northern tribal Pakistan during the American invasion of Afghanistan. It is never very clear what exactly the characters are fighting for or against nor why terrorism is seen as a legitimate means to their ends.

Very well written. Creates a fascinating and understandable insight into a family's culture so far removed from our own safe environment. Members of the same family have different points of view and seek solutions in often opposing ways.
I thoroughly recommend reading this book.

The bar is very high for books set in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and this one doesn't make it. Still, the author bears watching, as she seems to have potential.

Quite beautifully written but I didn't like the inconclusive ending.
