Season 2 is incredible, but Season 1 is utterly disappointing. Rather than focusing on the uniqueness of places, it focuses on locals killing unique animals to make a living. :(

It wasn't entirely about natural wonders: it included French bullfighting, for example, and these aspects took up more than half of the film.

Probably selected footage from other nature films to illustrate how men make a living in unforgiving harsh environments (not in order, ref pbs program link in summary:)

Mount Everest - Sherpa "pathfinders" for climbers.

Camargue river delta - men duel wild bulls.

Amazon flood plain- Annual fishing trip for giant pirarucu.

Grand Canyon - conservationists watch over last of the condors.

Borneo cave - men collect "birds’ nests."

Victoria Falls - Natives fishing at the edge of the falls.

Indonesia reef - RFID tacking a female giant manta ray.

Amazon forest - Rite of passage: boys and bullet ants.

Mount Kilimanjaro - Guards for farmers to protect crops against elephants.

Bangladesh’s Sundarbans - Honey collectors in Tiger-infested mangrove forest.
