When Jess and Clare Martin move from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to their former college town in the Hudson River valley, they are hoping for rejuvenation - of their marriage, their savings, and Jess's writing career. But their new life isn't all quaint town libraries and fragrant apple orchards. There is a haunting pall that hangs over Riven House like a funeral veil. Diving into the history of the area, Clare realizes that Riven House has a dark and anguished past. And whatever this thing is - this menacing force that destroys the inhabitants of the estate - it seems to be after Clare next.

Another great Gothic read by Goodman. I loved the atmospheric setting, the twisty plot, and the overall creepiness of the story.

The author used my home town as the basis for this story's location. That alone made it especially interesting to me, but I also enjoyed the story. Very suspenseful.

this was a good story and of course well written. But it just wasn't Carol Goodman good. The characters weren't full enough and the story wasn't scoped out enough. I liked it, but I know she can do better.
