I really enjoyed this movie and don't understand others who didn't like it. I liked "Hell on Wheels" better but this one held my interest and I love Western-themed movies without too much gunslinging. I didn't find it stereotyped or with fake drama. I looked forward always to seeing the next episode and am sorry that the moved wasn't continued into another season.

So full of stereotypes and predictable scenes. Don't bother.

I usually love BBC shows, but not this dull, plodding show. Watch Ripper Street instead.

This series was okay and did take a little while to get into. Perhaps it was the casting of the actors/actresses, but it was bit difficult to get into the characters. Agree with other comment....too much overacted dramatics!

This British drama takes a while to find its footing, but it's worth one's patience. Unique story and setting with three main characters who all have different sides to them. This allows the viewer to explore their natures and learn a bit about the pressures of the time, class structure, and values along with some English history.

Intriguing pilot that followed a young widow's journey from her foreclosed home to settle in a labor encampment owned by a viaduct builder in Culverdale (Yorkshire Dales.) Like 'Hell on Wheels,' it was about the lives and interactions of people in the hierarchy of such enterprise in the "Wild West." I like it more than "Hell on Wheels" though not so much with several irrational crises which were very clever but spoiled somewhat by the over played dramatics. Last, understand that there will be no season 2 from the British ITV. Too bad.
