It is believed that a three-year girl, who is in a coma, will heal the ailments of whomever touches her. This is the story of her parents, the man whose actions caused the coma and a priest who wants to conceal the miracles happening around the girl. Part domestic novel, part thriller, "Before I Wake" bridges the literary and the commercial in its exploration of healing and redemption, the power of trust and forgiveness, the true nature, and cost, of miracles and shows how faith can be renewed even in the face of tragedy.

Reading this book, I did not expect it but enjoyed it, however some ideas were reaching for myself. Interesting characters and situations and enjoyed the points of view that the stories are told. Pushing boundaries in some areas.

A good story, reasonably well-written, but I'm sorry to say that for me - I wondered why this was on the list. Sorry Mr. Wiersema - but there are a lot of wonderful Canadian fiction writers out there. Perhaps your second novel might capture me better!
