How is it possible that a copy of this 5th edition is always available on the shelf at the Performing Arts Library? Has everyone grown tired after reading the earlier editions?
Thomson loves film more that you do -or I do. I cannot vouch for the notations on silent movies, few of which I have seen, but otherwise...
You will look up the actors or directors that most interest or annoy you, but you will stay to read most of the 1,076 pages. This fellow is seductive, dismissive, and vastly appreciative.
His entry on W. C. Fields is written as a letter by Charles Dickens! If you don't like John Wayne, his entry will make you ashamed of yourself.
Not scholarly, this book is "something else".
