Ask people and they immediately know - they're either a dog person or a cat person. What is this all about? This film launches an in-depth investigation into the great divide between dogs and cats and just what draws people to these two polarizing pets. Animal behaviorists, psychologists, trainers and devoted owners all weigh in. Dogs, we find, are geniuses at reading what we want. And the complex cat-human bond can be as fickle or as deep as a marriage. Funny, touching and provocative, NATURE asks how well we really know our best friends and why we love them so much.

Fun to watch, but I am not certain that I learned anything about the love of cats and dogs that I did not already know. Now that I am retired, when asked my occupation I simply put down servant to cat. As any cat lover knows, cats have staff... As a life long animal lover, and having been owned by many cats, the idea of a cat being aloof is rarely true. I would love at 5 in the morning when Abby checks to see if I want to play, to have a cat who is aloof!! Kristi and Abby Tabby

Not sure if the "science" is correct, but it offers interesting theories and is a very entertaining piece.

This is a lovely heart-warming live video about the pets-humans relationship. I have just watched it and am still moved by it. I would suggest you, if you love cats, to go the VOKRA web site (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association). They are a non-kill shelter, who save cats from the miseries of street life, treat them medically and offer them for adoption. I adopted a female cat from them, and we love her very-very much. As opposed to VOKRA, the SPCA, which "protects animals against cruelty," in fact kills the dogs and cats turned over to them ("Puts them to sleep") if they are not adopted within 3 months. But VOKRA is a no-kill shelter; they keep the rescued cats indefinitely. Years ago I wanted to adopt a big, calm, responsive, friendly male cat from SPCA, but they refused to give him to me, for they wanted to feel safe that I "wouldn't return him to them." Maybe they put him to sleep afterwards, because the manager of the house where I rented did not want to give in writing, as SPCA required, that they accept pets. I moved to another place, and the other manager accepted my lovely VOKRA cat, Jamie. So I suggest you check out VOKRA - they also need some financial support from cat lovers, as they are an independent organization, without Gov. funding.

A look at dogs, cats, and those who love them. Cute, and tends to pull at the heartstrings.
