It is hard for me to believe that there is an Alexander McCall book that I did not love. But here it is. I could not get into this. It was very descriptive and quite slow moving. It is a different writing style than his others.

I'm a big fan of all Alexander McCall Smith's books and characters. This book gave a different view of WWII and those affected. It moves along at a good pace and covers a span of about 5 years in the life of a very independent woman; albeit not of her own planning. I loved this book.
