Watching this again recently I was reminded of my very mixed feelings about the series. Starting off as some of the best television of recent decades, this remake takes the premise of the silly 70s sci-fi adventure show and transforms it into a harrowing drama in which atrocities happen regularly, characters betray each other's trust in shocking ways, plot twists are genuinely surprising, hero characters make godawful choices (sometimes because they must and sometimes because they fail to live up to their ideals), and intriguing mysteries abound. The cast is excellent, the writing sharp, the characters memorable, and the music and cinematography are moody and atmospheric. Each episode leaves me anxious to see what is going to happen next. However, having seen the whole show run, I now know that this is one of several modern series which were launched with splendid beginnings but no idea where they wanted to go with their storylines once under way. A great many of those fascinating mysteries never will reach resolutions, the plots will turn out to be unintelligible messes, and the "science" behind the fiction turns out to be as nonsensical and inconsistent as that of the original 70s show. Would I still recommend it? Yes, I think the series is still worth watching, even though one has to be prepared for it to descend from the sublime to the infuriatingly disappointing.

This is a boring, jejune sci-fi series. The beginning with the sexy woman is laughable. The robots are goofy with the roving red eye. Really comes across as a juvenile show. Would watch and fast forward watch fast forward and then just mercifully terminated my watching for good. Lame is definitely the word that comes to mind after giving this series a go.

This sci-fi series, started in 2004, is still better than most present day sci-fi...cough, cough Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Anything Battlestar rocks and this is no exception. Just note though that this is the pilot ONLY and also appears on the season 1 DVD.

What with all of the reworking of 'sci-fi' series that is happening, can we just admit that apparently no one took the genre seriously? I say this cause we are talking about stories and scripts that apparently just got tossed off. Was it the producers or the writers that just didn't think that it mattered? I wonder. This one? Oh, dear god, don't get me started on that it is better than the original.

stay with it. it gets better. pretty satisfying drama and fiction thru to the end (season 4). highly entertaining and thought provoking.
Edward James Olmos literally holds that literary universe together.

Battlestar Galactica is a great series. The story line and characters draw you in. To get the most out of this series, watch it in order, as you would miss a lot by doing otherwise. I love the Cylons and Starbuck and Apollo!

Nothing like the original series. Very well written, acted, and filmed. Probably my favorite show on TV at the moment.
