Klay is a brilliant young writer. His stories are upsetting - full of irony and pathos with occasional exceedingly wry humor. I marvel at how well Klay was able to assume the persona of someone much different than he, an English major Ivy League graduate in a non-combat rear echelon role. He managed to capture the unique perspectives of all his characters - men of different branches, ranks, backgrounds and ages. As an Ivy grad from the same school and with the same major, I could surely relate to him having also served a non-combat tour as an officer in Vietnam - just as much tragedy and lunacy then.
