A fine book about one of Canada's elder statespersons. After a number of cabinet posts, he ran twice for Prime Minister, but he just couldn't quite get his groove during his first run in 1984, then put up the fight of his life in 1988 over free trade (which he opposed) and still lost, but wound up a voice of conscience regardless. A lifetime of public service. In his 80s, he is still greatly respected. He is one of the last operators who believed in ethics. Since then, all of his successors have not quite lived up to his bar.
