Flynn portrays the infamous George Armstrong Custer. This movie shows us not a prideful fool, but a truly patriotic man of character, filled with a love of his country and a love of real, not manufactured, glory. If one wants an intimate, honest portrayal of one of history's best, watch this movie. It is also gripping, right down to Custer's fall. The best part of this film is that it shows this event in history for what it truly was: a sacrificial act by a man who had served his country well, not a vain and stupid maneuver that ended the lives of many, although Custer knew what his action would cost. I cannot recommend this film highly enough. This is perhaps Errol Flynn's best role; his character has a depth and honesty that were never discovered in some of his other acting roles.
