Magical realism book that is entirely character driven. This is a truly amazing tale about what it means to love the soul regardless of the body.

This had some amazing character development and strong characters all around. It was written from multiple perspectives which really helped to get into the mind of each character. It was so utterly lovely to see such a diverse cast and to watch them grow and to have characters who don't (a bit closer to real life). This story was ridiculous, hilarious, and so heartwarming!! LGBTQIA diverse and realistic fiction.

I finished this in one day and enjoyed every moment. It did a good job of calling out that parents aren't always right and sometimes you have to be the one there for them. I enjoyed the body positivity comments from our main character especially being brought up in a home where you're constantly being told you need to change. Also, A+ to intelligent main characters and supportive queer sisters!

Catherine just wants to live a normal life. To have a brother that doesn't require making up sets of rules, rules she just knows but was never taught. Why can't he just know the rules like her? Having an autistic brother can be embarrassing, exhausting, isolating, and oh so lonely. Having these thoughts doesn't make you awful or a bad sister, it simply makes you human. What you choose to do, how you act, react, and tackle life with such a brother is a whole other story. Sometimes you simply need to be reminded who your real friends are.

It is a beautiful thing when you see a book that teaches you how to be open and honest with yourself and others. A book that showcases what it means to accept and to even allow faith in God (in this case of Christian belief) to strengthen your conviction to love others. This was a beautiful tale that lets you see that it's more than possible to be gay and loved by God. God doesn't make mistakes, so why should this be deemed as one?

I tore through this on my plane ride. There was no way that I could put it down. Each of the characters within were so wonderfully varied and unique that you couldn't help but fall in love. There is open and honest representation in this book for trans and asexual teens and for those who simply feel like they don't belong. Those poor souls who fall through the cracks.

This made my heart ache, I kept wanting to read it faster and faster but found it hurt so much that I would have to take breaks. It is brilliantly written, so much so I found myself needing to write down so many wonderful quotes from the book. This novel is not for the faint of heart but so utterly necessary I wish it was a required read for high schoolers.
"What I told you about saving people isn't true. You might think it is, because you might want someone else to save you, or you might want to save someone so badly. But no one else can save you, not really. Not from yourself. You fall asleep in the foothills, and the wolf comes down from the mountains. And you hope someone will wake you up. Or chase it off. Or shoot it dead. But when you realize that the wolf is inside you, that's when you know. You can't run from it. And no one who loves you can kill the wolf, because it's part of you. They see your face on it. And they won't fire the shot."

This will rip your heart out, make you laugh, warm your heart, and make you swing from wanting to hug things better or fight someone. You have Lily a transgender girl dealing with middle school, coming to terms with who she is, and working with her family to accept her as she is. Dunkin is the new kid in town who just wants to be accepted and pretend that he doesn't have bi-polar disorder, and that his father will be back in his life soon. Lily and Dunkin may just find solace through each other. Health is a tentative thing that is easy to discredit and overlook, especially when it has to do with mental health.
